Prolyte has begun a partnership with Silicon Theatre Scenery to bring the full range of STS automation and winching products to their supplier network.
Silicon Theatre Scenery designs, manufactures, installs and maintains complete stage installations. The automation, different winches and the metal structures, such as portals, bridges, trusses, lighting towers and revolves, everything comes from the same factory in De Kwakel (near Schiphol, the Amsterdam airport).
Due to the prefabricated construction method, a lot of time is saved during the installation at the theatre, allowing the period when the theatre is closed to be kept to a minimum. This also reduces the number of errors to a minimum, which, in turn, drastically shortens the installation time.
STS has a long history of providing automation systems to theatre. In the past year they have been involved in:
Oliver!
The opening night for the musical Oliver! was in Januaru in the Royal Dury Lane Theatre in London. STS supplied the automation for 8 lifts, 2 bridges, 6 sliders, 18 tracks, 4 winches and 4 doors. The musical is based on the novel of Oliver Twist written by Charles Dickens. The first musical of Oliver was in 1960 at West End and four years later on Broadway. In 1968 a film was made.
The producer of this new musical is Cameron Mackintosh. Special is that Rowan Atkinson plays Fagin, the leader of the gang who wants Oliver to join his club.
Oliver Twist is a protest against the so called Work Houses at that time where little children were taught how to be a criminal. In this novel we see the world mid 19th century through the eyes of our main character, Oliver Twist.
Mama mia & Blueman
Also in Oslo STS automated a Mama Mia set. They also assisted moving The Blueman Group to Basel.
Sunset Boulevard
This is one of the most impressive musicals of Andrew LLoyd Webber and is based on the movie Billy Wilder from 1950. It tells the story of Norma Desmond in Hollywood 1950. Norma was one of Hollywoods main stars and is now working on her comeback. The young writer Joe Gillis has to help here. Norma however falls in love with him.
The première of this musical was in 1993 in London. After London the musical went to Los Angeles and won nine Drama League Awards. It spent almost three years on Broadway and was later crowned with seven Tony Awards and two Outer Critics Circle awards.
This production was brought to the Netherlands by Stage Entertainment in 2008 as a national tour. The automation consists of a rotating ring and an inner revolve used to rotate the in- and outside of the house. The moving elements have their own power supply and have full wireless control.
The Sound of Music
This classic is produced in the Netherlands in 2008 by the Efteling and V&V Entertainment. The automation exists of two stage trucks with integrated revolves and a centre stage truck. Mid 2009 the set will be moved to Belgium. An extra winch will be added here.
The story is about Maria who takes care for the 7 children of captain von Trapp in Salzburg. After the military discipline of their father see brings joy in the children’s live as well in the live of their father, a widower.
Monkey’s Journey to the West
For this Chinese musical STS supplied 12 performer fly systems: 8 travelers and 4 point hoists. The performance was held at O2 in London.
The production was brought to the UK by the Manchester festival. This show tells a 400 year old story of a spiritual change and growth where East and West come together. It is a mixture of traditional disciplines like acrobatics, sang and dance with modern technology including animation and video projections.
Ciske de Rat
Ciske de Rat - the Musical is based on the Dutch trilogy of Piet Bakker and tells the story of the man Cis beginning of 1939 during the mobilisation of the Dutch troops. STS automated the revolve for this musical.
Sister Act
At the Paladium in London STS automated the musical Sister Act from Stage Entertainment. Two tracks, three lifts, one containing a sunroof, two revolves, 23 counterbalanced winches, 15 power fly winches, two automatic trucks and 13 sliders were automated. The musical is based on the novel of Cheri and Bill Steinkellner and film comedy of 1992.
Beauty & the Beast
STS provided the complete automated showdeck including decktracks, wireless trucks and a revolve for La Bella e la Bestia in Italy (Milan). Because of the short load-in time the total set will be tested in Germany.
